DJ Krush & Prefuse 73 Competition Reminder

ESPVisuals have teamed up with Soundcrash once again, for a competition to give away 2 FREE TICKETS to go see DJ KRUSH & PREFUSE73 & Many More Artists on the 16th October @ Koko's. All you have to do is email us with an answer to the simple question;

"What is the date this event is happening?"

Please mail your answer to selphespcrew [at] g mail . com The deadline is Thursday October 14th so have a long hard think about the achingly obvious answer!....

Dj Krush is the Sensei of Hip Hop. DJ Krush is arguably the most gifted producer & DJ in the world with a superb sense in mixing and composing who’s been lauded for years by both his domestic and the international audience and is probably the most revered and renowned Japanese musician alive. A former yakuza, his life is almost as incredible as his music, an unclassifiable blend of styles that can only be appropriately described as the Krush sound.

Prefuse 73 is the alias of Guillermo Scott Herren, an experimental hip-hop producer whose material often features MCs buried in the mix to become more a part of the sonic texture than a focal point. A very elusive performer, this is a rare chance to catch Prefuse 73 in the flesh.Tonight he will be playing an exclusive Laptop set on the Soundcrash stage.

Stuart McCallum’s use of loops and effects combined with his extensive harmonic knowledge make him on of the most in demand guitarists in the scene today. Best known as the guitarist of The Cinematic Orchestra, Stuart has also an extensive solo career, and tonight he brings to the plate his latest musical project, simply called “Stuart McCallum”. Joined by very special guests, Stuart McCallum takes the Cinematic Orceshtra sound into electronic territory on the hallowed stage of Camden’s Koko.

Masaaki Yoshida, better known as Anchorsong to you and I, is a proponent of some of the lovliest electronic soundscapes you can find, anywhere. Sometimes alone with his drum-machine and keyboard, at others accompanied by a glamorous string-quartet, always a phonic treat - here’s yet one more rising star brought by Soundcrash to you for your discerning delectation.

P45 is a Soundcrash resident dj for a reason: he’s good. With a vast knowledge of leftfield electronic music his sets are tailored for every occasion with the artistry and savvy of a true disc jockey. With P45 we always know we are in safe hands.

Hifana Hanabeam Video

I first posted about weird beats/breakbeat/turntablists, Hifana in Sept 2007, when irieman showed me some of their work and 3 years later, they are still making crazy music and visuals to match. This track is from their forthcoming album release, "24H". Welcome to the psychedelic/kaleidoscopic world of Japan on futuristic acid.

Warrior Dance X Excision Datsik

Irie from UK Adapta has just put together this amazing mash-up video of Warriors dancing to dubstep producers, Excision & Datsik's "Swagga"... Nice one bruv! Kept me laughing for ages...

What did you do this weekend?

Went for a paint on Friday. Assome horror:

Had way too much to drink at Mango's then for a skate on Saturday down at Stockwell:

luckily my favourite band of all time were playing that very evening and I had 2 tickets:

Me and Selph, my friend Adam and his girlfriend Dani held it down till obnoxiously late. Adam fell off my skateboard and then we went home...

Sunday....work, boring and hungover a lot (big up Tizer, I'd still be there had you not).

Monday: Fell asleep waiting for my ladyfriend to get her crooked wizdom teeth taken out by students.......

Good times, mad props to everyone I hung out with especially Adam & Dani, J, the bald guy at the gig with the terror face and 18 hole Doc Martins, Eyehategod for making it into the country for the first time in I think 10 years, Tizer for helping me out on Sunday, and the lovely Steph for providing substantial amounts of horror today to finish off the perfect extended weekend.

Thinking about it actually all the rest is just gonna kind of suck from now on.

ESPVisuals Interview with Ivan Shopov / Cooh

Today we have an interview with the extremely creative Ivan Shopov aka. Cooh

Tell us a little about yourself.

My name is Ivan Shopov and I am freelance artist and music producer from Bulgaria. Born in a small town called Troyan, that's situated in the middle of the Balkan Mountain in Bulgaria.

How long have you been illustrating and what are your influences?

I started with drawing when I was 6 as my mother is an artist too and I grew up in her studio. Later on I studied in the school of applied arts in my home town, taking ceramic and sculpture classes. Then after another 5 years I graduated at the National Academy of Arts in Bulgaria with speciality of graphic fine arts. So now I have been doing graphic prints and drawings for 13 years. My influences come mostly from the shapes of the nature twisted through the modern and classical art.

You are also a musician, producing electronic music. Tell us more.

I have been doing electronic music for the last 11 years and I have over 40 drum and bass and dubstep vinyl releases with my aliases Cooh and Balkansky.
Currently working on a few new projects in different styles. One of them is with my new alias for techno music - Drum Kid and another for hard and trippy dubstep - Underhill together with Dean Rodell and Current Value.

How does your music relate to your art or vice versa?

Its all connected, as I am a really creative person and cant stay a minute without doing something with my eyes and ears.
For me the art is in both directions and both help each other in the creative process.
When i do music its the same sence of composition, contrast and balance you have to apply for drawing a picture, so most of the time I spend half of my day drawing, the other half doing beats in the studio.

3 words to describe your art?

Organic, Abstract, Freedom.

3 words to describe your music?

Energy, Emotions, Future.

What are you currently working on?

Preparing new try point prints for my future exhibition in Belgium and setting up a portfolio with my current works to get some more attention over my art from galleries and art collectors.
Musicwise I am finishing some collabs for big labels, working on my solo stuff as Cooh, Balkansky and Drum Kid and sorting my tours all around the globe.
