The Waterlilies (2009)

Well, I'm glad this one is finished. I think I've had about enough of waterlilies for sometime...but it's fun to look at the previous waterlily paintings to see how my ideas evolved to where they are now. I'm very happy with this painting and had so much fun with patterns and colours!
Ripples Among Flowers (2009) - Waterlily Series
Size: 40.5cm W x 30.5cm H x 3.5cm D
I used a darker background as my starting point and it contrasted well with the dots I used I think gave a feeling of depth. I really like the purple flowers & will be using them in the next painting (a really big canvas). I tried to get some differentiation with the concentric circles used for the water - a larger concentration in centre and fewer (but larger) towards the canvas edges...
Feeling more confident that I have enough 'good' ideas tried to pool them together for a big canvas - and looking forward to seeing finished result!

Lily Pads No.5 (2009) - Lily Pads Series
Size: 40.5cm W x 30.5cm H x 3.5cm D
Just trying out some different variations in flower & leaf colours & contrasts. I like the 'scalloped' edges of the leaves. I tried out a monotone mid-blue background as my starting point, but a feel that the mid-tone didn't provide enough contrast with the dots to give a sense of depth.

Floating Lilies (2009) - Waterlily Series
Size: 71cm W x 36cm H x 3.5cm D
Okay...so it's another practise piece. I'm just trying to get all the elements right before I do a huge canvas with a stack of waterlilies. I feel that I am nearly ready...but am going to experiment with two more smaller canvas' to try out a couple more ideas & designs. I especially like the water effect I've achieved with this one...

Lily Pads No.3 - Lily Pad Series (2009)
Size: 71cm W x 36cm H x 3.5cm DA calm yet rippling water surface of a pond has been created using concentric circles. I’ve developed this pattern further it by using four different colour schemes for the circles - the mottled effect looks like rain drops on the waters surface. The flowers & leaves are an example of geometric patterns found in nature which is emphasized with the colour shadings.
